Summary
Requirement (Business problem)

An internal bottleneck was slowing down delivery for an e-commerce company offering on-demand print services. The highly customized nature of each order required manual design work and data entry, which consumed significant time, led to delayed tasks, and strained the design team during peak order volumes.


Issue (User problem)

Designers were manually entering client data (e.g. names, dates), arranging layouts from scratch, and making repeated low-level design decisions. This resulted in inefficiency, fatigue, and delays — especially when order volume spiked unexpectedly.

Design (Solution)

I developed an internal automation tool using Python scripting, Google Sheets for data management, and API connections to both a cloud-based database and a design platform. First, client data was cleaned, filtered, and categorized within Google Sheets to ensure compatibility with the API and scripting logic. This prepared the data for reliable use across the system. Then, I created reusable design templates that dynamically pulled in this structured data to automatically generate visual layouts — handling complex formatting tasks like sizing, centering, spacing, and rearrangement. This end-to-end process automated ~85% of the design work, leaving only final refinement to the design team.

End result (Impact/Outcome)

The tool increased designer productivity by 400% and significantly reduced manual workload. It allowed the team to process high volumes of orders quickly and focus more on creative or edge-case work. The automation also improved accuracy in data handling and enabled more predictable delivery timelines.
